Saturday

Dad's still alert today, but seems a little more tired than yesterday; probably worn out from being awake so much yesterday.

The doctor said his bili is up again today. Another liver function test was slightly improved, but not enough to be significant.

Dad's alert status is still the most encouraging aspect for the doctors right now. It could mean that his liver is starting to do something. Although I asked about that because two days ago they reduced his fluid intake and gave him another diuretic, which helped get more fluid out of him, so I thought that would be why he's awake...less toxins in his system. But I guess that's not the only reason.

The doctor did reiterate that this is still a very serious situation and there is still a long way to go before we'll know if Dad will be okay.

News from the doctor for everyone to note is that Dad's immune system is now critically low. This means there should be no children. The doc also said there should be fewer visitors at one time; and do not stay long--Dad gets worn out very quickly.
He DID say it's good to have them for Dad's mental health, but...PLEASE don't come if you feel sick in ANY way. If you are worried, you can stop at the nurses desk and get a mask. There is hand sanitizer ALL OVER the hospital, use it like it's your job. If Dad gets ANY illness at this point, it could kill him. Also keep in mind his mouth is affected by the chemo, and lots of germs are passed through the mouth. We want to protect Dad, not discourage people from loving on him.

  1. Jeri and Family, I'm so glad you made this blog for all of us who are concerned about your husband and dad. I have been thinking about your family all week and pray for your well being along with your dad's recovery. Work with out Jeri is quite boring, but knowing she is where she needs to be makes things bearable. Thanks for the update.
